NEW DELHI: A collective team effort powered India to their maiden Women’s World Cup title, as they defeated South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday night.
South Africa’s hopes faded when captain Laura Wolvaardt was dismissed in the 42nd over, followed by Chloe Tryon’s wicket in the same over. With 78 runs required off 48 balls and only two wickets in hand, the result was all but sealed.

Despite Nadine de Klerk’s late resistance, India’s bowlers held their nerve, bowling out South Africa for 246 in 45.3 overs to script a historic win in front of a passionate home crowd.
For India, Deepti Sharma led the charge with a brilliant spell of 5 for 39, while Shafali Verma contributed with two key wickets that turned the momentum in India’s favour.
To celebrate this monumental achievement, several organisations and state governments announced cash rewards for the players.
BCCI ANNOUNCES RS 51 CRORE CASH AWARD
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a massive cash award of Rs 51 crore for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team and the support staff after India’s historic triumph.
“As a token of appreciation, the BCCI will reward the Indian women's cricket team with a cash award of Rs 51 crore for winning the World Cup. It includes all the players, support staff and the national selection committee,” BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla said.

India’s win also brought home a record-breaking USD 4.48 million (Rs 39.78 crore) in prize money from the International Cricket Council (ICC) — the highest ever for any cricket World Cup.
The total prize pool for the 2025 edition was USD 13.88 million (Rs 123 crore), marking a staggering 297% increase from the previous edition in New Zealand.

The Madhya Pradesh government also honoured local star Kranti Goud for her exceptional performance in the tournament, announcing a Rs 1 crore cash reward.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made the announcement during a programme in Bhopal on Monday, lauding Kranti’s contribution to India’s World Cup success.
“Madhya Pradesh’s Kranti Goud, who contributed significantly to the team’s victory with her bowling, will receive ?1 crore from the state government as an incentive,” said the Chief Minister.
HIMACHAL PRADESH CM ANNOUNCES RS 1 CRORE FOR RENUKA SINGH THAKUR
In another gesture of appreciation, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a Rs 1 crore cash award for fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur, who hails from Rohru in Shimla district.
“Daughters of our country have scripted history by winning the World Cup,” said Sukhu. “I congratulate the entire team and its captain for this incredible achievement.”
